Glen Carbon board meets to resolve Butler easement issue

The board members of the Village of Glen Carbon held a meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9, located at 151 N. Main St.

Mayor Robert Jackstadt presided over the meeting. Other attendees included Ross Breckenridge, Micah Summers, Jorja Dickemann, Steve Slemer, Mary Beth Williams, Brooke Harmony, Jamie Bowden and Jim Schrempf.

A few issues were brought before the board, including a presentation from Ryan Butler of Remington Properties. He stated that if #19 is approved, it could create a temporary delay on approval for certain preliminary plats, which are important for new subdivisions. He said that he has completed the majority of the approval process and plans to receive final approval within the next two weeks.

Butler reported that he has completed every task that has been given him; he wants to know why his project needs to be delayed when it is the Village Board’s fault because they don’t fully understand all of the rules.

In response, Garry Denny from Pioneer Trail said that the project was approved since the first day. People who already live along Pioneer Trail have easements, despite the new land that Butler purchased for the easements.

Denny stated that the five houses currently along Pioneer Trail do not want any more traffic. In addition, Justin Venvertloh from TWM said that there are issues that need to be clarified for the Pioneer Trail Subdivision, such as the 30-foot wide easement Denny mentioned with the 15-foot Remington purchase, which obviously states that the purpose is for cross access easement.

At the end of the meeting, after evaluating various figures, the board decided that it is not good government to stop Butler’s progress now that he has completed the majority of the approval process; he will be allowed to develop the easement.
