The Alton City Council recently held a regular meeting under the supervision of Mayor Brant Walker, in which it discussed the closure of multiple roads and highways for a half marathon organized by the Alton Half Marathon Group.
The event required the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes of Illinois Route 143 and the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 67. The Illinois Highway Code allows the Department of Transportation to issue permits to local authorities that authorize them to close portions of state highways.
Additionally, the council examined bids for the Alton WWTP Spray Water Pump Replacement project and awarded the contract to the low bidder, Loelke Plumbing, for $92,750. This amount was well below the engineer’s estimate of $145,000.
Also of note at the meeting were the reappointment of Gary Doerr and the appointments of James Rogalsky, Eva Perkins and Wade Gibson to the Plan Commission.
