Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed 124 bills into law on Friday, with new measures affecting areas such as community-integrated living arrangements, Chicago police and fire pensions, and mental health therapy. The complete list of newly signed laws can be found at Gov. Pritzker Takes Bill Action.

Among the bills signed were two sponsored by State Representative Kevin Schmidt. The first, HB57, adds community-integrated living arrangements to the definition of “home” in the Essential Support Person Act. According to Schmidt, "This change will ensure those residents have the same visitation rights for essential support persons as other healthcare facilities."

The second bill, HB1120, removes a requirement for driver’s licenses to display a space where licensees may indicate their blood type and RH factor. Schmidt explained that "This change was made because medical professionals do not use this information to verify a persons blood type."

Schmidt is a Republican who was elected to represent Illinois' 114th House District in 2023, succeeding LaToya Greenwood.
