All of Collinsville Township’s expenditures for the past three years have been made accessible to the public for the first time.
Before Collinsville Township Trustee Chris Guy was elected in 2013, he made a pledge to voters that he would post the finance records of Collinsville Township online if elected.
"I am proud to announce that all expenditures since I first took office are available to the public, and the website is paid for at my expense," Guy said.
In 2015, Collinsville Township, which employs 38 people and has a population of 36,300 residents, generated $3.6 million in revenue and spent $3.1 million.
Fifty-three percent of township revenue was spent on streets and highways, 34 percent on financial administration, 8 percent on capital outlays and 3 percent on welfare.
Guy works for the Illinois House of Representatives and is a former resident of Collinsville. Guy currently resides in Maryville and serves as the southwest communications and outreach manager for the Illinois House Minority Leader Jim Durkin (R-Dist. 82).
Guy earned a degree in political science and a minor in business administration from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
As a Collinsville trustee, Guy believes taxpayers have the right to know how their tax dollars are being spent, which is why he pledged to post the township expenditures online.
In addition to posting the township finances, Guy pledged to facilitate government transparency by posting all scheduled public meetings, agendas and minutes online. Guy also promised that elected officials would not receive pay raises and said he would oppose any proposed tax increase.
Collinsville Township consists of Collinsville, Maryville, and parts of Glen Carbon, Pontoon Beach and Troy.
