The Granite City Legal and Legislative Committee met Tuesday, Aug. 16.
"The members of each committee are designated by the City Council at large, and the chairman for each committee is selected by the mayor from the five members which are designated for each respective committee."

Alderman Pickerell called the meeting to order.
Alderman Pickerell called upon City Attorney Brian Konzen to enlighten the Committee on how other communities liquor licenses work and how they compare to ours.
City Attorney Brian Konzen stated that he looked at 10 other cities in SW Illinois almost all of them permitted liquor licenses for retail sales within 100 ft of school. A couple were further, such as Alton (400Ft) and Collinsville (450 Ft) None of the communities list 100 ft from mortuary. Some made exceptions for Clubs/Fraternal Organizations. But most predated ordinances. Granite City is now 300 ft. lot line to lot line. Most others are front door to front door.
The Committee as a whole discussed the current liquor license Ordinance and the fact that changes are necessary.
Alderman Petrillo asked if others limit the number of licenses. Attorney Konzen stated it depends on the type.
Mayor stated that after reading through the Ordinances it is a case by case basis for approval of liquor licenses with restrictions.
Mayor stated that they might want to think about creating zones.
Alderman Williams stated that 90% of the quick stops have Liquor Licenses, but denying Mr. Abner t is depriving him of income when all the others have them. Need to be more consistent.
Alderman McDowell stated maybe we should change the restriction from 300 feet to 100 feet and approve on a case by case basis.
Alderman Simpson believes it should be front door to front door and not by property lines.
Alderman Jackstadt suggested separating by types of businesses, such as; gas stations, grocery, etc.
MOTION By Pickerell, second by Williams to change the liquor license and add 1 additional license.
MOTION By Pickerell, second by Williams to adjourn.
