Granite City Plan Commission allows rezoning classification

The Granite City Plan Commission met Aug. 4 to allow a rezoning classification.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the commission:

The purpose of the Plan Commission is to maintain the City's Comprehensive Plan--a blueprint of future growth needs. The eleven members forward recommendations to the City Council on zoning, land use and subdividing during their three, four or five year staggered terms.

Plan Commission Minutes August 4, 2016

CALL TO ORDER The Chairman, John Janek, called the meeting of the Plan Commission to Order on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 7:00 PM.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE & SWEAR IN The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the Petitioners and audience who want to speak were asked to remain standing to be sworn in.

ATTENDANCE/ROLL CALL Members Present: John Janek, Shirley Howard, Mark Davis, Don Luddeke, Roger Tracy and Don Scaturro. Also present were: Zoning Administrator Steve Willaredt, Asst. City Attorney Laura Andrews and Alderman Dan McDowell. Excused absence: Mary Jo Akeman, Peggy Cunningham and Andy Mathes and Building Inspector Ralph Walden.

WELCOME: The Chairman, John Janek, welcomed and introduced new board member Don Scaturro to the board.

MINUTES/AGENDA Motion to approve the Minutes from the previous meeting (July 7th, 2016) was made by Roger Tracy and seconded by Don Luddeke. Voice Vote. All ayes. Motion carried.

COMMENTS BY THE CHAIRMAN The Chair stated to the Petitioners, the Plan Commission is a recommending body to the City Council and the Council will make the final determination at their next Council meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday, August 16th, 2016.

COUNCIL REPORT No Report.

PETITIONER: Jerry Myatt

JM Motors 2810 Lincoln Ave. Parcel: 22-2-20-17-19-402-026 District Zoned R-2 Single Family Residential

The Chair stated this is a request for Amendment of Zoning Ordinance to allow reclassification of R-2 Single Family Residential District to C-5 Highway Commercial District.

Jerry Myatt came forth, introduced himself and stated he resides at 31 Oaklawn Dr Granite City, IL. Mr. Myatt stated he owns the vacant lot that is adjacent to his business JM Motors 2310 Nameoki Rd. and would like to expand the business and park cars on the vacant lot.

Zoning Administrator Steve Willaredt explained there had been an Ordinance #8562 vacating a portion of the alley that is adjacent to 2310 Nameoki Rd.

Chairman asked if there was anyone in the audience that wanted to speak either for or against this petition.

Discussion for in favor of the petition: Don Locandro who resides at 2715 E 23rd St Granite City,IL, stated he is for the petition.

MOTION by Mark Davis and seconded by Roger Tracy to approve the petition and allow rezoning classification from R-2 Single Family Residential to C-5 Highway Commercial District at 2810 Lincoln. Roll Call vote. All ayes. Motion carried by unanimous consent.
