All-American, Florida state champ named new SIUE assistant wrestling coach

Eric Grajales has been named an assistant wrestling coach at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, according to siuecougars.com.

Grajales, a native of Brandon, Florida, was an All-American at the University of Michigan, competing for four seasons before graduating in 2014. He reached the round of 12 at the national championships each season, highlighted by a third-place showing in 2014. He went 89-42 at Michigan. Since the end of his college career, Grajales competed in mixed martial arts and won his two matches.

At Brandon High School, Grajales had a 217-0 career record, with four state championships. He also has twice been a member of the FILA Junior World team, was fifth at the 2008 Greco-Roman Senior Nationals and was named the 2006 Junior Greco Wrestler of the Year. He also earned the 2009 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award for the South Region and Florida.
