The city of Belleville is offering residents the opportunity to enroll with the community notification system CodeRED.
The system is maintained by the Emergency Communications Network (ECN).
In an emergency or when community alerts are necessary, the local emergency response team will send out information to residents. This may include boil water notices, evacuations, extreme weather or flood alerts, and missing child reports.
Residents can sign up with a home or business address and request notification to an email address or a phone. Text and TDD/TYY notifications are available. A person signing up for the service can check a "keep my information private" box to ensure that ECN will not release any information to third parties without a court order.
Residents must also agree to the terms and conditions that state: "By adding your phone number you agree to receive telephone calls that deliver messages from your local municipality or employer that are pre-recorded and sent by Emergency Communications Network."
