Shaye Harre has pretty much done it all this year as a Saluki softball player: She leads the team in batting average, hits, walks and on-base percentage. Oh, and she also has a 3.9 GPA in animal sciences.
But the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville star recently added one more accolade, being named as one of 30 players in the country up for the 2016-17 Senior CLASS Award for collegiate softball.
Last year, Harre was a second-team Academic All-American and first-team All-District and All-Conference choice.
Student athletes eligible for the award must be NCAA Division I seniors. They are nominated for their achievements in their community and classroom, as well as their displays of character and their competitive spirit.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 later this month, before a winner is announced. Ballots will be issued nationwide for coaches, fans and the media to vote on their top picks.
