Scott Miner is a major proponent of transparency in government and has talked extensively about the need to make fiscal expenditure information available to the residents of Wood River.
Miner, a city councilman, says residents have a right to know where their money is going, and to get that done, he is running for mayor of Wood River.
“One of my first priorities when I am mayor will be to publish the city's checkbook online for all to see," he wrote on his Facebook campaign page. "Residents of Wood River ought to be able to see every dollar spent in real time. It just makes sense.”
An operations coordinator at BJC HealthCare and graduate of East Alton-Wood River Community High School, Miner has been on the city council since 2013 and has also served on the East Alton-Wood River Board of Education.
Miner said his other goals include working with businesses to improve the local economy and increasing better-paying jobs for residents. He’s also pushing for a new aquatic center -- something he believes can be accomplished without an increased tax burden.
Miner also sees the need to remain accessible to residents to understand and work with them on community issues. He has previously expressed his commitment to a continued investment in the infrastructure of the city, including things such as sidewalks and water/sewer system maintenance and upgrades.
Miner is running to replace Wood River Mayor Frank Akers, who is not seeking re-election.
