Madison County Institutions Committee met May 10.
Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:
Present: E. Harriss, C. Dutton, J. Futrell, N. Petrillo, D. Moore, B. Malone, L. Dalton
Absent: J. Minner, K. Novacich
Others: B. Lavite, B. Daiber, C. Cohan, J. Roth, M. Westerhold
Mr. Malone moved, seconded by Mr. Moore, to approve the April meeting minutes. Motion Carried.
Education:
B. Daiber handed out his monthly report. He informed the committee that a truant officer has resigned. He also brought last year’s yearly report to show the new board members the format.
Veterans Assistance:
B. Lavite handed out his monthly report and highlighted certain statistics on the report. He mentioned to the committee that the office is down an employee and hopes to hire someone for next budget cycle. B. Lavite also handed out a flyer advertising the need for volunteers to drive the DAV Van.
Mental Health:
J. Roth informed the committee that her department is now a staff of 1. She had a recent retirement last month. She is in the process now of preparing to start the process of looking into filling the position. J. Roth informed the committee that Centerstone has applied for a grant that would be for more permanent housing for people that have a mental health or substance abuse problem. There has also been a federal grant that has been approved for drug court clients. J. Roth passed out information regarding Mental Health Awareness month held by OSF Healthcare and also information regarding a workshop being held on building social skills.
Child Advocacy:
C. Cohan reported on a sexual abuse case that ended with a successful trial. C. Cohan gave an update on the renovations at the center. The old storage room has been converted to a training room. She also informed the committee that she submitted a letter of intent for the VOCA funding grant. She handed out an organizational charts of the current and future structures with the new positions. C. Cohan informed the committee that the forensic interviewer has accepted the position and starts May 23rd.
Museum:
M. Westerhold handed out the monthly report for the museum. She highlighted and explained how an item is processed when it comes to the museum to go on display. She also mentioned the book that was stolen in Collinsville has been returned and eventually it will go back on display.
Ms. Dalton moved, seconded by Mr. Malone, to pay the monthly bills. The ayes and nays being called on the motion to approve resulted in a vote as follows: Ayes: Futrell, Malone, Dutton, Dalton, Moore and Petrillo. Nays: None.
Ms. Dalton moved, seconded by Mr. Malone, to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
