City of Jerseyville City Council met May 23.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Jerseyville City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at the Jerseyville City Hall.

ROLL CALL: Present were Commissioners Gary Goetten, Steve Pohlman, Kevin Stork, Richard Perdun and Mayor Bill Russell. Also present was City Attorney Bill Strang.

Comm. Pohlman led the opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

A motion was made by Comm. Perdun and seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting on May 9, 2017, Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays, motion carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Stork, seconded by Comm. Goetten, to approve the bills as presented which totaled $292,293.01. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays; motion carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Goetten, seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the tourism grant from the Downtown Country Christmas Festival Inc. in the amount of $3,500.00 to support the event which will be held on November 25, 2017. Michael Ward made a presentation to the Council with regards to how successful the event was last year and what they hoped to do with this year’s festival. Various activities will be offered throughout the festival for all ages. The festival will include the participation of several local businesses and charities. The Mayor stated how well last year’s event was attended by the community. He also stated the money is coming from tourism which will bring money into the community. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays; motion carried.

A motion was made by Comm. Perdun, seconded by Comm. Stork, to approve the Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Memorandum of Understanding for Mutual Aid between the City of Jerseyville and the Village of Godfrey. Chief Gowin stated this is a standard agreement that includes both fire and police. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays; motion carried.

Discussion and possible approval of a resolution authorizing the sale of surplus real estate property owned by the City of Jerseyville pursuant to 65 ILCS 5/11-76-4.1 Appraisal Method was tabled at this time due to waiting on appraisal.

Under new business, Mayor Russell reminded and encouraged the public to attend the upcoming Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 29, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. to show the support to our veterans. He also reminded the public that school is now on summer break and to please drive carefully around town. Comm. Goetten said the City Pool will open this coming Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Mr. Larry Allen expressed his concern with the house located at 104 Northmoor. He said the house has been empty for years and is very unsightly. Chief Gowin stated they needed to check on a building permit the owner has out on the property to see if it has expired. Mayor Russell told Mr. Allen he would look into the matter and give the home owner a call to see what his intentions are with the property.

Mayor announced there will be no closed session.

A motion was made by Comm. Stork, seconded by Comm. Perdun, to adjourn the meeting at 6:18 p.m. Roll call vote showed all ayes, no nays; motion carried.
