The calls in Wood River included 53 fires - 26 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 19 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $342,479 in fire loss - or about $6,462 per fire.
The department also received 78 false calls, including one malicious call and 77 other false calls.
The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.
The Wood River Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 10 active employees and 11 retired or inactive employees, was $464,732 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $8,769 for every fire in 2016.
