Signal Hill FD responds to 27 fires in 2016

Signal Hill Fire Department responded to 62 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The calls in Signal Hill included 27 fires - 13 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and six other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $80,500 in fire loss - or about $2,981 per fire.

The department also received 35 false calls, including one malicious call and 34 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Signal Hill FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has one active employee and retired or inactive employee, was $4,917 positive as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $182 for every fire in 2016.
