Alton Appearance Review Commission met December 20. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

Members Present: Debbie Schuneman, Mike Doucleff, Barb Gearing, Margaret Hopkins, Kim Lane, Nick Moehn


Members Not Present: Gen Gearing

Others Present: Doug Moore, Hugh Halter, Sam Shaw, Building Inspector, Becky Brunaugh, Secretary

A meeting of the Appearance Review Commission was held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Debbie Schuneman called the meeting to order at 8:01 a.m.

New Business:

Hugh Halter with The Post Commons presented the application for 300 Alby St. He is proposing a 7’ sign, stainless steel with brass and copper accents, reading “The Post Commons”. The sign will be placed on the corner of the building at Third and Alby streets, approximately 2/3 up the side. There will be a lamp on the ground that illuminates the sign.

Upon further inspection, there may be an issue with the power lines that run along Third St. Mr. Halter will contact Ameren.

Margaret Hopkins made a motion to table the issue until January 3rd. Kim Lane seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Doug Moore with The Underground presented the application for 630 E. Broadway. He is proposing a white-on-black sign reading “The Underground Coffee and Music Venue”. The bracket will measure 36” x 24” with the sign sized to fit. It will hang centered to the building on the brick.

Barb Gearing made a motion to approve the application as presented. Mike Doucleff seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Other Business:

The Commission discussed making possible revisions to the Appearance Review Guidelines. It will be discussed in further detail at the January 17th meeting.

There being no further discussion or comments from the public, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
