City of Alton Civil Service Commission met March 7. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

A regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was called to order at 8:15am on March 7, 2018, at Alton City Hall, 101 E. Third Street, Alton, Illinois.


Members Present:      Terry Bristow, Jonas Janek, Vicki Serales-Williams

Members Absent:        None

Staff Present:               Civil Service Attorney Patrick King

Guests Present:           None

A motion was made by Mr. Janek and seconded by Ms. Williams to approve the minutes of the regular meetings on February 21, 2018. Motion passed.

Further discussion was held regarding potential department advisors being present during interviews.

Mr Bristow made a motion to vote, seconded by Mr. Janek, that department heads may be present during interviews. All in favor. No opposed. Motion passed.

Mr. Janek made a motion to vote, seconded by Ms. Williams, to send a letter to each department head inviting them to give consultation before an interview and expressing rules for being present during the interview as well. All in favor. No opposed. Motion passed. The letter will be drafted by the Chief Examiner and Civil Service Attorney and sent for approval to the Commission via email.

Mr. Janek made a motion, seconded by Mr. Bristow, that the job descriptions as listed on the attached Exhibit A be rescinded and no longer shall be considered valid as those jobs are no longer necessary or applicable to any positions of employment within the City of Alton. All in favor. No opposed. Motion passed.

With no further business, Mr. Janek made a motion, seconded by Ms. Williams to adjourn at 8:45am. Motion passed.
