Alton Appearance Review Commission met March 14.

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

Members Present: Debbie Schuneman, Barb Gearing, Gen Gearing, Margaret Hopkins, Kim Lane, Nick Moehn


Member Not Present: Mike Doucleff

Others Present: Amanda Diveley, Steven Yates, Chris Velloff, Alexandra Mattea, Sam Shaw, Building Inspector, Becky Brunaugh, Secretary

A meeting of the Appearance Review Commission was held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Chairwoman Debbie Schuneman called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m.

Barb Gearing made a motion to approve the minutes for February 28, 2018 as presented. Kim Lane seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

New Business:

Amanda Diveley with Merle Norman presented the application for 110 W. 3rd St. She has a sign reading “Merle Norman” in white vinyl letters centered on the glass above the entrance.

Margaret Hopkins made a motion to accept the sign application as presented. Barb Gearing seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Steven Yates with Bill & Joe’s presented the application for 1401 E. Broadway. He is proposing a sign, 8’ x 12’. It will be non-illuminated, mounted on an existed pole, both sides printed on poly overlaid with vinyl. It reads “Bill & Joe’s Auto Sales”.

Nick Moehn made a motion to accept the sign application as presented. Barb Gearing seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Chris Velloff with The Brown Bag Bistro presented the application for 318 E. Broadway. She is proposing a cedar-plank sign with hand-painted lettering that will hang in the existing frame on the side of the building in the courtyard.

Barb Gearing made a motion to approve the sign application as presented. Kim Lane seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Alexandra Mattea with Lucianna’s Pastries presented to application for 607 E. Broadway. She is proposing an awning, black sunbrella material reading “Lucianna’s Pastries” and a peacock in gold. It is 18’ long.

Barb Gearing made a motion to accept the application as presented. Kim Lane seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

After discussion, it was agreed that The Spoon’s existing sign does not have to come before the commission as nothing has changed since the Appearance Review Commission previously approved it.

There being no further discussion or comment from the public, the meeting was adjourned at 8:26 a.m.
