Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Murphysboro) had dozens of friends with him on the Illinois Senate floor May 22.
“I would like to draw your attention to all of the students with the green shirts up in the president’s gallery,” Schimpf said during the debate. “We have 51 4H members from across Illinois.”
Attending the University of Illinois 4H Legislative Connection event being held in the capitol, Schimpf said the youth represented 30 different 4H programs throughout the state.

Animal science, camping, college readiness, environment, global leadership, healthy living, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are just a few of the groups the students make up, Schimpf said.
He concluded his point of personal privilege to announce the retirement of 4H Youth Development Extension Specialist Deb Stocker.
“Deb started in June of 1981 and became the first 4H adviser in Clinton County," Schimpf said asking the House to give Stocker and the students a warm Springfield welcome.
