CITY OF COLLINSVILLE: Fire Hydrant Flushing

Webp fire 05

City of Collinsville issued the following announcement on May 24.

Its summer time which means the Collinsville Fire Department will be coming to your neighborhood soon! As part of our continuing efforts to ensure your safety, the Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants throughout the city. We do this for a few reasons:

1. It is too late to identify a malfunctioning fire hydrant when there is a fire.

2. Hydrant flushing helps to rid the water system of unavoidable sediment.

3. Insurance companies rate fire departments on the services provided to the community. An appropriate hydrant maintenance plan is one of the services rated and an effective plan can improve your fire insurance rates.

We are working with the water department to minimize any possible disruption to your water supply. If you notice a dip in water pressure, please be patient because normal pressures will return in moments. If you notice cloudy or discolored water, don’t worry, it will clear up as quickly as it appeared. Postpone washing white or light colored clothing until the water clears up, but there is no reason to let your taps flow more than a minute or two if you do notice cloudy or discolored water.

Look for notices on Facebook and other forms of social media to find out when we will be in your neighborhood. When driving, please move over and slow down when you see crews working.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
