Mitchell Fire Protection District responded to 60 calls in 2017 - 27.7 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Mitchell included 37 fires - four structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 25 other fires.

In all, the department saw $82,230 in fire loss - or about $2,222 per fire.

The department also received 23 false calls, including one malicious call and 22 other false calls.

The Mitchell Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $280,989 in 2017.
