Smithton Fire Department responded to 53 calls in 2017 - 17.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Smithton included 39 fires - 18 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 16 other fires.

In all, the department saw $1,002,000 in fire loss - or about $25,692 per fire.

The department also received 14 false calls, including one malicious call and 13 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Smithton Fire Department had an annual budget of $436,420 in 2017.
