Republican candidate Doug Jameson has a clear and focused agenda ready for when he gets to call Springfield home.
“The first thing we have to do is fire Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) as House Speaker,” Jameson recently told the Metro East Sun. “Right now, his fingerprints are on everything coming out of Springfield and in my view none of it is good.”
From there, Jameson hopes to tackle a tax system that has residents across the state paying some of the highest property taxes in the country.

“Every time I go out into the community the first thing people want to talk about are the rising property taxes and their overall budget concerns,” said Jameson, who is running against incumbent Rep. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) in the 113th District. “The Metro East is trending toward conservative candidates and values and they’ve simply had enough of the democrat machine and their way of doing things.
Jameson recently took part in a local pro-life rally and said once he arrives in Springfield he plans to sponsor legislation calling for the reversal of abortion expansion law HB 40.
“First of all, we are fundamentally a party that supports right-to-life,” he said. “Beyond that as a state already going through financial hardship, we simply can’t afford state-funded abortions from a practical standpoint.”
Jameson said all the feedback he’s gotten on his plan to sponsor reversal legislation has been positive.”
“I have it on good authority that if Gov. Rauner is re-elected and we win enough seats in the House to have a majority able to get legislation to the governor’s desk he plans to sign the reversal,” he said. “A growing number of people [feel pretty strongly] that this needs to happen. Even many of those who might not fully share all of our values and conviction on the issue are adamantly against the idea of state-funded abortions.”
