U.S. Representative Mike Bost has called for a new audit of the St. Louis Processing and Distribution Center, managed by the U.S. Postal Service's Office of Inspector General. This request follows ongoing complaints from constituents in Southern Illinois regarding persistent mail delays, misdirected deliveries, and lost items.
Bost expressed concerns about these issues, which have continued despite previous assurances from USPS management to improve operations after a 2022 audit. "When seniors fail to receive their medications on time or working families are hit with late fees for bills that never came, it’s clear something is broken," said Bost. He emphasized the importance of accountability within the Postal Service to ensure timely and reliable mail delivery for Southern Illinois residents.
The St. Louis facility serves as the main processing hub for this region. The earlier audit identified problems such as staffing shortages, scanning errors, and numerous late or canceled mail trips. In his letter, Bost urged an investigation into staffing levels, training practices, infrastructure conditions, and whether previous recommendations have been effectively implemented.
