Venice Community Unit School District 3 students suspended 24 times in a single school year

Venice Community Unit School District 3 reported 24 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 24 students during the year. That equates to 41.4 percent of the 58 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes seven incidents. For seven incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 17 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 12 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For nine incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
