According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 2,285 students during the year. That equates to 35.8 percent of the 6,391 students enrolled.
Students were expelled for five incidents with violence that caused physical injury, two incidents with a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm and one incident with drugs.
Of the 1,538 in-school suspensions, 1,039 were given to boys and 499 were given to girls, including 786 elementary or middle schoolers and 752 high schoolers.
The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 1,341 incidents. There were 142 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 1,299 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
Of the 739 out-of-school suspensions, 512 were given to boys and 227 were given to girls, including 379 elementary or middle schoolers and 360 high schoolers.
The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 430 incidents. There were 154 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 233 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.
