Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 students suspended, expelled 1,977 times in a single school year

Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 reported 12 expulsions and 1,965 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 1,977 students during the year. That equates to 30.7 percent of the 6,435 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for six incidents with drugs, four incidents with a dangerous firearm weapon, one incident with a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm and one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 1,635 in-school suspensions, 1,072 were given to boys and 563 were given to girls, including 203 elementary or middle schoolers and 1,432 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 1,604 incidents. There were 13 incidents of tobacco. For 1,127 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 330 out-of-school suspensions, 243 were given to boys and 87 were given to girls, including 91 elementary or middle schoolers and 239 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 286 incidents. There were 18 incidents of drugs. For 132 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
