East Alton School District 13 students suspended 230 times in a single school year

East Alton School District 13 reported 230 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 230 students during the year. That equates to 26.8 percent of the 857 students enrolled.

Of the 203 in-school suspensions, 163 were given to boys and 40 were given to girls, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 203 incidents. For 152 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 27 out-of-school suspensions, all of whom were elementary or middle schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 25 incidents. There were one incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 10 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
