East St. Louis-Lincoln Middle School reports 23% truancy rate

The truancy rate at East St. Louis-Lincoln Middle School rose to 23 percent during the 2016-17 school year, according to a Metro East Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The schools average daily attendance rate was 85 percent.

Students are considered chronically truant if they miss 5 percent of school days or more per year without acceptable excuses. The East St Louis SD 189 saw a chronic truancy rate of 20 percent during the 2016-17 school year, while the statewide rate was 11 percent.

The school enrolled 716 students in the 2016-17 school year, and average daily attendance was at 85 percent for the year, the Illinois State Board of Education reported. The average daily rate of attendance across the state was 94 percent.
