Village of Glen Carbon issued the following announcement on Oct. 16.
The City of Edwardsville and the Village of Glen Carbon are announcing a combined effort to send desperately needed supplies to the Florida Gulf Coast. We received a plea from former Edwardsville resident Melissa (Pluta) Sharp who tells us that Northstar Church - Panama City Beach is a donation center for the community to come and receive the items they need to survive the mass destruction by Hurricane Michael. Mayor Patton is the coordinator locally and Melissa will be our contact in Florida.
Through the combined attempts of many caring individuals and groups in our area, there are plans to take the first truckload of supplies to Panama City early next week. A local tree removal company, Arbor Management, who is contracted with FEMA, has agreed to deliver the first shipment. Another truckload will be collected and sent the following week.
Donations will be accepted at Edwardsville City Hall or Glen Carbon Village Hall this Wednesday – Friday and both the Niebur Center (Esic) YMCA on Esic Drive and Meyer Center YMCA on Goshen Road this Wednesday - Saturday. The Edwardsville Rotary (Thursdays at the First Christian Church) and Goshen Rotary (Wednesdays at the Leclaire Room) will also be collecting items at their respective meetings.
