With less than three weeks before polls open across Illinois, state Senate candidate Jason Plummer's pro-business message appears to be resonating with the masses.

Running against Democrat Brian Stout in the 54th Senate District, Plummer has bagged the endorsements of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m honored to have the support of these business groups and their many members throughout Southern Illinois,” Plummer, Vice President of R.P. Lumber Company, said in a press release. “Both the NFIB and Illinois Chamber of Commerce are doing a great job advocating for hard-working people and trying to foster an environment of job creation in Illinois.”

Plummer said he shares the organizations view that workers all across the state have been under attack for far too long

“Southern Illinois has seen its native industries smothered by hostile regulatory policies and small business owners are bearing the brunt of the income tax increase,” he added in the release.

Plummer recently told the Metro East Sun he still believes Illinois is a great state whose reputation is badly suffering stemming from all the bad policies coming out of Springfield.

“We have to address our out-of-control property taxes immediately, that’s what keeping companies from coming here and that’s the biggest single burden on families that are here,” he said. “You have to remember all the property taxes are on top of the 32 percent income tax hike recently imposed. That came with no reforms and has made little dent in the state’s debt load, and now they’re already talking about a new progressive income tax.”

Both NFIB and the Chamber of Commerce saluted Plummer for his long held commitment to small business owners.

“Our members support candidates who support small business,” said Mark Grant, NFIB state director for Illinois. “These candidates clearly understand the vital role small businesses play in the state's economy and are committed to creating an environment where they can expand and create jobs."

The 54th District includes Bond, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, Madison, Marion, St. Clair and Washington counties.
