Republican Rep. John Shimkus (R-Collinsville) recently announced Collinsville residents John and Robin Chomko have been honored with the Angels in Adoption award by the Washington-based Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.

"John and Robin opened their hearts and their home to 13 adopted children after the birth of their two biological sons in 1993 and 1995," Shimkus said in a press release. "God's grace and the Chomkos' deep faith are awe-inspiring, and [how] the family [has] grown together is a testament to the power of love and the importance of adoption."

Angels in Adoption recognizes individuals and organizations known to have gone above and beyond in the world of adoption, permanency and child welfare. The program prides itself on bringing more attention to the adoption process, providing a platform for those honored to share their firsthand adoption experiences with members of Congress and the general public.
