The price of local government in 2017: Village of Bethalto

The Village of Bethalto budget was $13.58 million for its 2017 fiscal year, or $3,450 per household.

That's an increase of 0.5 percent from 2016, when the village spent $13.52 million, or $3,434 per household.

Bethalto has 3,937 households and a population of 10,648.

Since 2001, the Village of Bethalto budget has fallen by 10.1 percent, from $15.11 million. The village population has grown 6.9 percent over the same period, from 9,957.

Salaries accounted for 25 percent of village spending in 2017. Bethalto property taxpayers paid $3.40 million for 45 full-time employees and two part-time employees.

In 2001, the village had 42 full-time employees and spent $3.57 million, or $85,056 each.
