EAST ST. LOUIS SCHOOL DISTRICT 189: First day of school - August 15, 2019

East St. Louis School District 189 recently issued the following announcement.

The first day of school will be Thursday, August 15, 2019. Here is key information to help you prepare for school year 2019-2020. 

  1. REGISTRATION
Returning students only need to update their contact and medical information and shot records, as necessary. Information can be updated at your school or at the Family and Community Engagement Center (located at the James E. Williams Center at 401 Katherine Dunham Place). All NEW students must register prior to the start of school. New registration for preschool is conducted at the Vivian Adams Early Childhood Center; new K-8th registration is at the Family and Community Engagement Center; and 9-12th grade registration is at East St. Louis Senior High School.  Health records must be complete to finish registration.

  1. STUDENT BELL SCHEDULE
Vivian Adams Early Childhood Center: 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Avant, Dunbar, Officer & Wright Elementary Schools: 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Bush Elementary School: 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Mason/Clark & Lincoln Middle Schools: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Younge Alternative Middle: 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Younge Alternative High: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

East St. Louis Senior High School: 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

  1. BUS REMINDERS
Bus schedules will be mailed August 5.  Students must arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes early. If your address has changed, visit your child’s school to update all address information. This must be completed before updated bus information can be provided by the Transportation Department. Parents may call 618-646-3051 for answers regarding transportation questions.

  1. UNIFORMS
All students should wear closed toe shoes (any color) and navy blue, khaki or black slacks, skirts, jumpers or shorts. The standard preK-8th grade uniform shirt is white, black, navy blue or powder blue. Shirt exceptions are as follows: Mason/Clark grade 5 students should wear red shirts only.  High school freshmen should wear black shirts only; sophomores wear gray shirts only; juniors should wear royal blue shirts only; seniors should wear orange shirts only.  

If you need assistance getting school uniforms for your child, please contact your child's school. You will need to verify household income but the school will help you with the application process!  

  1. SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST
Students should be prepared to participate in learning and complete assignments with the proper materials. Detailed school lists for each grade level can be obtained here: School Supply List 2019-2020
