A political fundraiser in Illinois last week was highlighted by a faux-assassination of President Donald Trump that elicited a profusion of angry reactions.
The fundraising event, held for state Sen. Martin Sandoval (D-Chicago), showcased a simulated assassination attempt of Trump.
“My only comment on this is that if this is appropriate behavior by a candidate, would he feel the same way if someone had depicted our previous president that way,” wrote community activist Terrie Kallal in an email to the Metro East Sun. “Like it or not, President Trump was duly elected by the people.”

WGN-TV reported that Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker said what happened was insensitive and wrong especially in light of the recent Ohio and Texas shootings.
Sandoval did apologize for the incident, stating that he had no idea the stunt was going to occur.
“I had absolutely no knowledge that this regrettable exchange between one of my 1,200 guests and a third-party vendor even took place,” Sandoval said in a statement published on WGNTV.com. “Those individuals involved exhibited extremely poor judgment.”
Kallal feels Trump is under-appreciated and misunderstood.
“He has reduced unemployment more than any other president in the history of our country,” Kallal said. “Joblessness across ALL sectors is 4 percent or less. What is there not to like about people having great well-paying jobs? President Trump loves All people despite what our Main Stream Media tells us. He even loves defenseless unborn babies sleeping safely in their mother’s wombs.”
Kallal wrote that if the media was truthful in its reportage pertaining to Trump, then situations fueled by hate would not happen.
“Trump, like Abraham Lincoln, is trying to lead us toward a ‘United’ States of America,” Kallal said.
