COOL CITIES COMMITTEE

MEETING MINUTES

September 16, 2019

Malench called the meeting to order at 7:03pm. The following members were present and answering roll call: Malench, Marconi, and Young. Brennan and Glotfelty were absent.

Also Present: Assistant City Manager & Community Development Department Director Derek Jackson, Scott Rayho, Chairman of the Planning Commission.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Young made a motion to approve the August 19, 2019 meeting minutes. Seconded by Marconi. Voice vote: All Ayes. Motion approved (3-0)

DISCUSSION 

5.1 Collinsville Sustainability Plan Jackson reintroduced the draft sustainability plan. Jackson stated that he is seeking additional feedback from the Committee regarding the content of the plan. Jackson stated that after we iron out the details for content, he will begin working on the formatting of the plan. Jackson stated that he is not married to any of the language within the draft plan, and but feels overall it is a solid starting point. Jackson stated that he would like to host a special meeting or open house to solicit input from the public. Committee member Young provided staff feedback on several items within the draft plan. Jackson stated that all feedback would be included in the next version of the draft. Jackson also stated that Committee members may email him suggested language prior to the October meeting as well.

5.2 Committee Logo

Marconi provided an update on the draft logo for the Committee. Marconi stated that her friend Ryan, who provided the original concept logos, is actively working on the logos and in the process of digitizing the hand drawn logos. Marconi said once the digital logos are ready, she’ll bring the item back to the Committee for review.

STAFF REPORT

Jackson stated that he will be presenting the City’s Green Business Challenge Report out to the Missouri Botanical Garden on September 27, 2019. Jackson stated that he expects the City will earn the Green Municipality award. Jackson stated that he will present the repot out to the Committee next meeting as well. Jackson stated that he has spoken with Parks & Recreation for possible locations for setting up an evasive species clean up, which includes Woodland Park and Willoughby Farms. Young recommended we target the first or second weeks of November so that the Evasive species will be easier to spot. Jackson stated that the City’s application for Adopt-A-Highway has been approved and that he will work on scheduling dates to setup the Committee’s first clean-up.

COMMENTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Committee member Young jokingly stated that the Committee meetings are causing him to miss the PBS Country Music documentary. Discussion ensued regarding music and the Mississippi Music festival and Tunes at Blume. The Committee also discussed the upcoming Italian Fest.

ITEMS FOR OCTOBER 21ST MEETING AGENDA

Jackson stated that he plans on having Draft Sustainability Plan, Adopt-A-Highway Update, the Green Business Challenge report-out, and possibly a mission statement agenda item that Member Brennan has been crafting.

Motion to adjourn made by Young, seconded by Marconi.

Voice Vote: All Ayes. Motion Approved (3-0)
