COOL CITIES COMMITTEE
MEETING MINUTES
October 21, 2019
Malench called the meeting to order at 7:01pm. The following members were present and answering roll call: Malench, Marconi, Glotfelty, and Young. Brennan was absent due to a scheduling conflict and expected to arrive later in the meeting.
Also Present: Assistant City Manager & Community Development Department Director Derek Jackson, Scott Rayho, Chairman of the Planning Commission.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Young made a motion to approve the September 16, 2019 meeting minutes. Seconded by Marconi. Voice vote: All Ayes. Motion approved (4-0)
DISCUSSION
5.1 2019 Green Business Challenge Report Out
Jackson provided a PowerPoint presentation to the Committee highlighting the goals and accomplishments achieved by the Committee, Willoughby Farms and City-wide projects to the Committee.

5.2 Collinsville Sustainability Plan
The Committee reviewed the draft sustainability plan and provided feedback to staff. Jackson stated that he will work on formatting the plan for the next regular meeting.
5.3 Committee Mission Statement
Committee Member Brennan provided the Committee with a PowerPoint presentation of coming up with a mission statement for the Committee. Brennan also provided multiple draft mission statements for the committee to consider. Brennan requested that we bring the topic back for further discussion next meeting.
5.4 2019 Festival of Trees
Chairman Malench pitch the idea of submitting a wreath or a tree to the 2019 Festival of Trees event held annual at Gateway Convention Center. The committee discussed possible ideas. Jackson stated that he would follow up with the group via email to see what the group submit if any as the deadline for submittal is prior to the next November meeting.

STAFF REPORT
8.1 Adopt a Highway Update
Jackson informed the Committee that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has revised and approved the Committee’s request for Adopt-A-Highway along Collinsville Road. Jackson reminded the Committee the scope of the area adopted and the requirements for pick up. Jackson inquired about possible dates and stated he would follow up with IDOT on the formal process of establishing a clean-up day.
8.2 Invasive Species Sweep – Woodland Park, Willoughby Farms, and/or Morris Hills Park
Jackson discussed establishing an invasive species sweep either at Woodland Park, Willoughby Farms, and or Morris Hills Park in November. The Committee discussed various days and locations. A date was not established during the meeting, but Jackson stated he would follow up with the group via email and coordinate with Parks & Recreation Department to have assistance. Jackson stated that all volunteers would be required to sign a liability waiver.

Young stated that he was happy to be apart of the Committee and happy with the progress the Committee is making so far.

Jackson stated that he plans on having Draft Sustainability Plan, Mission Statement, and any follow-up to the items discussed this evening to the next meeting.
