City of Collinsville Cool Cities Committee met Dec. 19.

Malench called the meeting to order at 7:05pm. The following members were present and answering roll call: Malench, Glotfelty, and Young. Brennan and Marconi were absent. Also Present: Assistant City Manager & Community Development Department Director Derek Jackson, City Council Member Tony Hausmann
SPEAKERS FROM THE FLOOR: Council Member Tony Hausmann addressed the Committee and thanked them for their hard work in 2019 by guiding the community down a sustainable path and for volunteering their time at various events that helped the City earn the Certificate of Achievement in the St. Louis Green Business Challenge.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Young made a motion to approve the November 18, 2019 meeting minutes. Seconded by Glotfelty. Voice vote: All Ayes. Motion approved (3-0)
DISCUSSION 5.1 Collinsville Sustainability Plan Jackson presented an update to the Sustainability Plan. Jackson stated the plan incorporates in comments provided from the November 18th, 2019. Jackson stated that he has presented the plan to the Planning Commission and Parks & Recreation Advisory Board for feedback. Jackson stated that the Parks & Rec Advisory Board supports the plan 100% and that Planning Commission also supports the plan, but offered advise to spell out acronyms, add descriptions to each section so the average reader understands each topic, and include benchmarking/tracking system for implementation purposes. The Committee provided additional edits to the plan. Jackson stated he would work on adding content suggested by the Planning Commission to the next draft for the January meeting.
5.2 Committee Mission Statement The Committee did not discuss this item because Brennan is the project manager and was unable to attend the December 19, 2019 meeting. This item will be on the January meeting agenda.

STAFF REPORT 7.1 2019 Green Business Challenge Update Jackson presented the Committee the Certificate of Achievement to the Committee and thanked everyone for their hard work in 2019. Jackson stated that he plans on enrolling in the 2020 project, and that hopefully the draft sustainability plan will be the big success for the following year.
COMMENTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS Malench announced that she will be resigning from the Committee in early 2020 due to her moving into her father’s home in Edwardsville. Malench stated that she will keep in touch with the Committee and hopes to be on the Edwardsville Cool Cities Committee soon. Glotfelty shared information regarding a recent trip to review Terra Char. This company creates and utilizes biochar, a product that can be used to help improve crop yields, is energy efficient, and is considered a carbon negative substance by removing CO2 from the atmosphere.
ITEMS FOR DECEMBER 19th MEETING AGENDA
Jackson stated that he plans on having the updated sustainability plan, mission statement, and possibly a guest speaker for the next meeting.
