Q3 2019 Recap: Parolees in East Saint Louis convicted of homicide

There were four offenders convicted of homicide released on parole in East Saint Louis during the third quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The data shows that four men were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for homicide was 43. The youngest parolee was a 29-year-old man sentenced in 2011, and the oldest was a 71-year-old man sentenced in 1976.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Isaac Smith. He was convicted of homicide in 1976 when he was 27 years old. He is now 71.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
