Q2 2019 Recap: Parolees in Alton convicted of sex crimes

There were two offenders convicted of sex crimes released on parole in Alton during the second quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The data shows that both of the released offenders in Alton were men. Of these parolees, one is a veteran. The younger parolee was a 30-year-old man sentenced in 2018. The other was a 51-year-old man sentenced in 2019.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Randall W. Barnes Jr. He was convicted of a sex crime in 2018 when he was 28 years old. He is now 30.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
