Rep. Mike Bost details recent votes on defense funding and federal spending cuts

Rep. Mike Bost, who represents Illinois’ 12th district in the U.S. Congress, shared updates on recent legislative activities and meetings via his social media accounts this week.

On July 16, Bost posted about a meeting with a constituent during congressional business: "Ran into Daryl Cates from Monroe County today during a House Agriculture Committee hearing. Daryl, who is also on my Ag Advisory Board, is in Washington today on behalf of the Illinois Soybean Association and met with my office to discuss ways we can work together to support the".

In another post dated July 18, Bost discussed his vote regarding federal spending: "Tonight I voted to codify $9 billion in DOGE cuts to woke foreign aid funding, NPR, and PBS. We are fortunate to live in a time when there are countless educational programming options for kids on television, streaming, and the internet. We don’t need taxpayers to foot the bill".

Later that same day, he highlighted support for defense funding: "This week I proudly voted for this year’s defense appropriations bill to give our troops the tools, training, and pay raise they deserve. In a big win for national security and our dedicated servicemembers at Scott Air Force Base, this bill strengthens our military readiness,".

Bost has served as U.S. Representative for Illinois's 12th District since 2015 after replacing Gerald Hawkins. He previously served two decades in the Illinois House of Representatives and was part of the Jackson County Board from 1984 to 1988. Born in Murphysboro in 1960, Bost continues to reside there while fulfilling his congressional duties.
