July-Dec. 2019 Recap: Parolees near Illinois zip code 62205 convicted of homicide

There were five offenders convicted of homicide released on parole near Illinois zip code 62205 during the second half of 2019, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The data shows that five men were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for homicide, one is a veteran, and the median age is 43. The youngest parolee was a 36-year-old man sentenced in 2012, and the oldest was a 66-year-old man sentenced in 2010.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Corey Bell. He was convicted of homicide in 1999 when he was 20 years old. He is now 40.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
