Centerstone was awarded a $360,000 grant from the State of Illinois and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

According to The Telegraph, the grant was given to Centerstone to assist the organization in providing help to uninsured or underinsured families who are suffering from stress due to the COVID-19 crisis.

John Markley, the regional CEO for Centerstone, said the number of families seeking assistance is expected to grow as the coronavirus crisis progresses.

“The current national crisis of COVID-19 will certainly contribute to growth in these numbers,” Markley told The Telegraph. “Americans across the country will struggle with increases in depression, anxiety, trauma and grief. There is also an anticipated increase in substance misuse as lives are impacted by individuals and families.”

Centerstone helps people with serious mental illness and people who suffer from substance abuse disorders.

“With the grant, we will be able to deliver care that changes people’s lives through expanded crisis intervention services, mental and substance use disorder treatment, and other related recovery supports for children and adults impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Markley said.
