CITY OF BELLEVILLE: Belleville Police Department Updates Online Reporting

Webp police 04

City of Belleville issued the following announcement on May 20.

In our continued efforts to provide our citizens and officers with safer and more effective ways to report crimes and interact with the community, the Belleville Police Department has redesigned our online services at https://www.belleville.net/457/Online-Reporting.

The new website will allow residents to file police reports or report a crime concern online.  It can save time by allowing the citizen to fill out the report at a date and time of their choosing with no waiting and without leaving their home. However, not every crime can be reported using this online system.  The online services provided on the website will be:

 • Citizens can submit a Crime Tip, including information regarding criminal activity, drug activity, an anonymous tip regarding ongoing investigations, or traffic complaints.

• Residents can join our Private Video Surveillance Camera Program.  This program informs our department that a resident has exterior cameras that record and would like to assist us in solving neighborhood crime. If a crime is committed in your neighborhood and your camera is in the area, a detective or officer may contact you to view your recorded video. Participation in investigations is voluntary. Your video may be the help investigators need to solve a crime.

• Residents and business owners can request Security Checks for Residences and Businesses.

• Citizens can submit an Online Police Report.  The following reports can now be made online, provided there is no suspect information and the incident occurred in the Belleville City limits.

o Criminal Trespass to Vehicle - For example, your vehicle is not found in the manner you left it, and it is clear someone was in the car, or someone broke into your

car, but no property was stolen.

o Fraud / Unlawful Use of Credit / Debit Card - For example, someone obtains telephone service using your identity, uses your information online, impersonates you,

deceives you into giving your money or property, or uses your credit card and makes a purchase without your authorization.

o Harassing Communication - For example, you continue to receive anonymous calls from someone making sexual suggestions; an ex-boyfriend continues to text,

threatening to slash your tires and key your car.

o Identity Theft - Examples include someone opening a credit card account or obtaining phone service using your personal information or using your social security

card number to obtain employment. o Lost Property Examples are items left in a restaurant or missing from your home.

o Theft - Examples include items stolen from your yard, driveway, porch, or common shared areas such as garages or laundry facilities of apartment complexes or

mail or packages taken from a mailbox.

o Illegal Dumping – For example, someone throws trashed materials in your dumpster to avoid disposal fees and often consists of building materials, old discarded

     appliances, etc.

• Citizens can also add information to existing reports by completing the Supplemental/Follow-Up Police Report or Victim / Witness Voluntary Statement.  These forms need to be completed, printed, and signed before being delivered or mailed to the Belleville Police Department.

Within a few business days following the submission of your report online, your report will be assigned a case number and reviewed by a Belleville Police Patrol Supervisor. If further investigation of your case is needed, an officer will contact you to gather additional information.

The Belleville Police values our community and strive to provide the best services possible.  The new online reporting availability increases our capabilities to provide additional assistance to our citizens. For more information, contact Chief of Investigations, Lt. Todd Keilbach at (618) 234-1212.
