ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 113: Moylan Highlights ICASH Program, Encourages Residents to Check it Out

Zz

Illinois State House District 113 issued the following announcement on Aug. 27.

State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, is highlighting the record breaking amount of money and property returned to Illinoisans through the ICASH program administered by the Treasurer’s office since 2015.

“I encourage local residents to take some time to check to see if they’re owed money as well,” Moylan said. “Each and every dollar that rightfully belongs to Illinoisans should be theirs, and through this program the state is able to return money and property to residents which they may not even be aware they are entitled to.”

Since 2015, the Illinois Treasurer’s office has returned over $1 billion in unclaimed property, which is more than any previous five year period. Unclaimed property is characterized as any accounts in financial institutions, financial stakes in companies, unpaid life insurance benefits, bank accounts, etc. Often this unclaimed property remains inactive for years, but is still legally entitled to be returned to the owner or heir. The Treasurer’s office estimates that one in four people are entitled to unclaimed property with an average payment of $1,000. To see if you have unclaimed property owed to you, residents can visit https://icash.illinoistreasurer.gov.

“During the COVID-19 crisis and the consequential economic fallout, every penny counts,” Moylan said. “The process is very quick and only takes a few minutes. It is well worth it to check and have your money returned to you.”
