State Sen. Jason Plummer (R-Edwardsville) is wearing his recent Sheriffs of Illinois PAC endorsement like a badge of honor.
“I sincerely appreciate the endorsement,” Plummer said. “Now more than ever, I am proud to support the men and women in law enforcement who keep our families and communities safe.”
Still in his first term in the 54th District, Plummer said that is a position he vows to always take.
“These are strange times and we must never confuse right and wrong or good or evil,” he added. “The people of Illinois are served every day by many great law enforcement personnel. I would hope we all stand with them and speak up for them.”
Plummer recently took Democrats to task over what he sees as their reluctance to speak out against House Speaker Mike Madigan as his central role in an ongoing federal corruption probe involving ComEd and a pay-for-play scheme has become public.
“Their party bosses have destroyed this state, ruining communities and destroying opportunity for Illinois families to pay to play,” Plummer told the Macon Reporter. “They’re happy to be good little lapdogs as long as the campaign dollars keep flowing and the pay increases keep coming.”
As part of a “years-long bribery scheme,” prosecutors contend contracts and payments were steered to Madigan trough close associates as a way of currying favor with him on pending legislation. Though no charges have been filed against Madigan, prosecutors have not been shy in asserting that ComEd attempted to “influence and reward” him by providing financial benefits to those directly tied to him.
Plummer predicts it’s only the start of more to come.
“No doubt more is to come,” he added. “Taxpayers should be grabbing torches and pitchforks.”
