Smithton Fire District responded to 59 calls in 2018 - 11.3 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Smithton included 31 fires - 21 structure fires, three vehicle fires and seven other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,456,004 in fire loss - or about $46,968 per fire.

The department also received 27 false calls, including two malicious calls and 25 other false calls.

The Smithton Fire District had an annual budget of $327,653 in 2018.
