Signal Hill FD responds to 34 fires in 2018

Signal Hill Fire District responded to 65 calls in 2018 - 3.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Signal Hill included 34 fires - 14 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 12 other fires.

In all, the department saw $43,250 in fire loss - or about $1,272 per fire.

The department also received 31 false calls, including one malicious call and 30 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Signal Hill Fire District had an annual budget of $548,775 in 2018.

The Signal Hill FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has active employee and one retired or inactive employee, was $14,999 positive as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $484 for every fire in 2017.
