Mitchell Fire Protection District responded to 42 calls in 2018 - 30 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Mitchell included 21 fires - five structure fires, six vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $755,450 in fire loss - or about $35,974 per fire.

The department also received 21 false calls.

The Mitchell Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $988,020 in 2018.
