Wood River FD responds to 55 fires in 2018

Wood River Fire District responded to 112 calls in 2018 - 30 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Wood River included 55 fires - 32 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 15 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $168,850 in fire loss - or about $3,070 per fire.

The department also received 55 false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Wood River Firefighters Pension Fund, which has eight active employees and 12 retired or inactive employees, was $54,775 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $711 for every fire in 2017.
