Q1 2020 Recap: Parolees in St. Clair County convicted of crimes involving weapons

There were 22 offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons released on parole in St. Clair County during the first quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Metro East Sun.

The data shows that 21 men and one woman were among the parolees. Of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons, one was a veteran, and the median age was 32. The youngest parolee was a 21-year-old man sentenced in 2019, and the oldest was a 58-year-old man sentenced in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Chauncy C. Gillespie. He was convicted in 2014 when he was 21 years old. He is now 27.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
